BANANAS
Bananas are the main crop produced all-year round
in Komatipoort. The total production is marketed
domestically under the well-known Lebombo brand.
Organic and conventional bananas are produced and
sold country wide. |
CITRUS AND MANGOES
Grapefruit (Star Ruby, Rosι and Marsh), Turkey
Valencia Oranges and Limes are grown and marketed
internationally as well as domestically. Mangoes
are packed for export as well as local markets.
Mangoes are also delivered to a nearby juicing
plant in Malelane. |
SUGARCANE
Sugarcane is harvested and processed at the TSB
Sugar mill near Komatipoort. |

POMEGRANATES, FIGS
AND DRAGON FRUIT
Pomegranates and dragon fruit are grown in
Komatipoort where the subtropical climate favors
the cultivation of such crops. Figs are grown in
Vrede in the Free State. The company also holds a
50% share in a large-scale fig development near
Napier in the Western Cape. |
VEGETABLES
The company has recently ventured into the
cultivation of selected vegetable crops such as
green peppers, tomatoes, melons and green beans.

LITCHIS
Litchis are sold on domestic markets where very
favorable prices are attained. |

CATTLE BREEDING
Since 2003 the company has been farming cattle in
the Eastern Free State areas of Vrede and Memel.
The focus is on breeding high quality adapted
Bonsmara cattle. A bull sale is held in July and a
commercial female sale is scheduled for February
annually. |
HAYMAKING AND PLANTED
PASTURE
Eragrostis Curvula (Oulandsgras) grass is
fertilized, mown and baled to supplement grazing
scarcities in the harsh winter months. Arable
farming was ceased in 2009 and the unplanted lands
are planted to Smutsvinger grass and Lucerne.

BACKGROUNDING OF WEANED CALVES
Calves are backgrounded and conditioned, in other
words prepared for the feedlot on irrigated
perennial ryegrass pastures. It serves as a way to
increase revenue from the beef cattle enterprise
as well as adding value to produced products.
